Gastric Plication
Laparoscopic Gastric Plication
This procedure is the latest technology available in bariatric surgery and is rapidly gaining popularity and acceptance as a primary procedure with good results on weight loss.
The procedure is similar to a Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) without the staple lines or tissue removal, the gastric plication is done with sutures and there is no tissue removal. The sleeve in the stomach is created by suturing folds in the gastro-intestinal tract with non-absorbable suture material. Dr. Lee simply will imbricate/plicate the stomach using running stitches from above downwards, layer by layer, till most of the stomach is pushed inwards, creating a narrowing of the passage, and a tunnel along the lesser curvature, just like the sleeve.
Dr. Lee is excited about the new Gastric Plication (LGP) as a bariatric procedure. It promises to be a method that gives weight loss results without the risks associated with other bariatric procedures.
